  • Help Your Neighbor

, parent company Eye Care Associates wants to extend its prayers to everyone who has been effected by hurricane Sandy. As a New York and New Jersey based company we have been impacted severely in that our offices and employees homes have all suffered power losses as well as damage from the storm.

Thankfully, all are accounted for and no serious damage was done. Unfortunately, the same is not the case for many of our neighbors, brothers and sisters in the tri-state area. As such, CLE Contact Lenses wants to offer a helping hand, even if in a small way. CLE Contact Lenses will be contributing $2 for every order that is placed on it's website over the next week to the Red Cross, and in particular the NY & NJ branch of the Red Cross to assist in their efforts to help those that have been lost so much in this terrible storm.

There is no need to order from CLE Contact Lenses in order for you to help the cause as anyone can make a donation by directly visiting the Red Cross website and making a donation to their hurricane relief program(s). For more information on the Red Cross, hurricane relief programs you can visit their website at: or to make a donation you can visit the Red Cross disaster relief at:

The beauty that shines through, even on the darkest days when storms like this impact so many – is the beauty of the human spirit and in the way we all can and do come together to help our neighbors and brothers and sisters in times of need.

“As insignificant as our gesture may be in the grand scheme of things – we feel it is far more important to step in and do something when people need it most.”

    - Chris Kalian, Partner at Eye Care Associates

  • Improve Your Costume with Contacts

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to finally get serious about making this year’s costumes just right. While there are many ways to make your costume look great, one captivating idea is colored contacts. Whether you’re a vampire, a zombie, Cat Woman, a witch or you just want to add that little something extra, contacts can make your costume go from ordinary to over-the-top awesome!

What can they do for my costume?

You don’t have to worry about people thinking you’re just any ballerina - these black contacts can make the difference between a ballerina and a Black Swan.

Red contacts will not only set you apart from other vampires, but they certainly add that blood sucking fear factor.

The above examples are only two of many examples of how colored contacts not only enhance a costume but can make you stand apart from the crowd. Colored contacts are a great costume addition, perfect for Halloween enthusiasts and are certainly an affordable option.

  • Colored contact lenses

Having blonde hair and blue eyes used to put you in a pretty exclusive club that was determined primarily by genetics. Anyone that has ever taken a biology class and used a punnet square can tell you the probability of being born with a specific hair and eye color. But nowadays you can simply go to your local pharmacy to find a dye which can alter your hair color and in the next aisle over you can stumble on a pair of contact lenses that can change your eye color. A contact lens is a medical device which is placed on the eye in order to correct vision. From a medical perspective, the use of contact lenses gives many people who are dependent on wearing glasses another option. People may find a lot of different reasons to wear contact lenses but aesthetics and cosmetics are among the two leading factors. Now a new motive and phenomenon has come into light, that being the ability to correct your vision and change the appearance of your eyes. Recently, even some people with perfect eyesight choose to wear colored contacts strictly to alter their appearance. These types of contacts are known as cosmetic contacts and they are designed to change the appearance of the eye. Many eye care brands are starting to offer cosmetic contacts, even the very popular Acuvue brand has released a line of color altering lenses which come either with or with out vision correction. As with any contact lens, cosmetic lenses carry the same risks. Complications can arise from improper use and vary from mild to serious, including ocular redness, irritation, and infection. Any one considering using cosmetic lenses, whether it is for vision or for style, is strictly encouraged to speak with an eye doctor before hand. For this reason all contact lenses, even purely cosmetic ones, are classified as medical devices in the United States. All individuals who would like to wear cosmetic lenses long-term, should also schedule regular aftercare examinations, in order to avoid potentially blinding complications. Cosmetic lenses can be used to drastically alter the appearance of the eye, as seen in the entertainment industry. If you take Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video her eyes seem to be wider-than-life. This led to the birth of a new trend in Japan, South Korea and China. It is called the “Circle Contact Lens”. These lenses are colored contacts that make the eyes appear larger because they cover not just the iris, as normal lenses do, but also part of the whites. The result is the appearance of a bigger, wider iris. Aside from being one of the five senses, our eyes have now become a new popular accessory. The idea of matching your belt with your shoes is totally an understatement if your eye color can match as well. Will this trend lead to people changing eye color as often as they change their socks? Will there be a different eye color for each day of the week, or perhaps an eye color that will reflect the mood you are in? What ever the future trends may be, let us not forget how important our eyes are, and it is in our best interest to take care of the only pair we were given.

  • Contact Lens Removers - The benefits of using contact lens removers to insert and remove contact lenses from your eyes…

For nearly five years one of the partners at our company, resisted ordering contact lenses for his eyes.  Despite the fact that the company sells tens of thousands of contact lenses and eye care related products each year, Chris couldn’t get comfortable with putting the contact lenses in his eyes and couldn’t get comfortable removing the contact lenses from his eyes.

“The damn things would stick to my finger tips and not go in my eyes so I just held off and kept wearing my old glasses.”

Finally, one day his partner Rob jokingly said he should be ashamed of himself for not having tried what thousands of our customers have been using for years…. contact  lens removers.

Contact lens removers are a simple yet very effective device that come in many shapes, sizes and varieties.  They are as simple as a mini plunger type remover that looks like a small piece of plastic with a hole on both ends

and can be as elaborate as a full insertion and removal kit

(check out these 2 quick videos to learn how to properly insert/remove both soft and hard contact lenses using a remover.)

Contact lens removers were pioneered by eye doctors and eye care professionals who saw the need to help solve a very common problem that hundreds of thousands of contact lens wearers experience – the difficulty in inserting and removing contact lenses.  The insertion and removal process can be quite simple for most folks as the diameter of the lenses and finger tips are a right fit.

Additionally, most folks have the proper ocular shape and moisture composition.  Unfortunately, many folks do have an issue that may make inserting or removing contact lenses more difficult.  The level of moisture found in the eye can vary quite significantly.  Additionally, the shape of either the eye or the finger tip can have an impact on how hard or easy it is to insert or remove contact lenses.

Lastly, the individual user’s ability and tolerance for “eye touch” – can vary dramatically.  Some folks’ eye touch response mechanism is much more finely tuned and more sensitive, making it significantly more difficult for them to actually touch the eye.  Touching the eye is a process necessary in properly inserting or removing the contact lens and if you are unable to touch your own eye effectively – you can resort to either having someone else insert or remove your contact lenses, which can be very difficult and even un-sanitary, or you can employ the help of a contact lens remover.

The most common and popular contact lens removers on the market today are the soft and hard lens removers like the ultra and magic contact lens removers (make this a hyperlink to our product page for same), the Lobob insertion and removal kit and the Softsert contact lens removal kit. There are also traditional contact lens tweezers which can be used to handle contact lenses as well.

The ultimate benefits for using a contact lens remover vary from user to user and for someone like Chris, a partner here – they are something he can’t live without.  “I wouldn’t be wearing contact lenses if not for Rob’s prodding me to try the various contact lens removers  we sell on our own contact lens websites.
